Terms and Conditions

Terms and Conditions are in abbreviated form.

 Please refer to the current State of Ohio Boat Operator’s Guide for complete listing.

 

  1. To rent/operate a pontoon boat, you must be 16 years or older with a valid driver’s license.  This person must make the reservation and be present on the boat at all times.  Please bring your driver's license.

  2. Children under age 10 must wear a personal flotation device (life jacket) at all times; however, wearing a PFD is highly recommended for all boaters at all times. 

  3. Life jackets are provided.  You may use one of your own if it is stamped “Coast Guard Approved” and in good condition.

  4. Exceeding the number of people or weight limits listed on the capacity plate or determined by The Boathouse at Strouds Run are prohibited.

  5. No alcoholic beverages are permitted on any watercraft at any Ohio State Park Lake, including Dow Lake at Strouds Run State Park.

  6. Operating a boat while under the influence of alcohol or drugs is illegal. 

  7. Operating any vessel carelessly, heedlessly, without due caution, or at a rate of speed that endangers another person, boat, or property is prohibited.

  8. The renter of a pontoon returned dirty or littered will be subject to a cleaning fee of $25 or more.

  9. Any pontoon boat returned late will be charged 2 times the regular rate.

  10. Swimming from any vessel in Dow Lake is permitted in only one marked area.  Use ladders to exit and enter pontoon boats for swimming.

  11. No vessel may be operated within or through a designated non-boater swimming zone (beach area).

  12. Sitting, standing, and walking on a moving vessel are prohibited in areas of the vessel not designated for that activity.

  13. All passengers must stay inside the railings and seated while a pontoon is moving.

  14. No tubing, skiing, or towed watersports are permitted using any watercraft.

  15. Only US Coast Guard Approved floats are permitted on the lake—no pool toys, noodles, or rafts.

  16. Rental boats must stay 10 yards away from, may not be tied to, carry, or be carried by another watercraft.

  17. Passengers may only board and dismount pontoon boats at the boathouse dock.

  18. Pontoon rental boats may dock ONLY at the Boathouse dock.

  19. Due to shallow water, rental pontoons are not permitted near shorelines or to the part of the lake to the right when leaving the dock.

  20. Orange and white buoys indicate different zones/areas of the lake.  Please pay close attention to the buoys and what they indicate.
